Magistretti the centrepiece of sparkling Fallon treble
He was also successful on Alec Stewart's Tarjman in the opening Exning Stakes and Nevisian Lad, who gave Michael Bell some consolation for Saturn's defeat earlier when taking the Creature Comforts EBF Maiden Stakes.
It was a close call for Magistretti, however, as he only just held the sustained challenge of Dunhill Star by a head after sweeping into the lead two and a half furlongs from home.
Magistretti, who carries the colours of Michael Tabor, has always been highly regarded by Neville Callaghan, and he is best priced at 50-1 with Cashmans and Paddy Power for the Epsom Classic, but Ladbrokes, the Tote and Coral make him a 33-1 chance. Dunhill Star is best priced at 40-1.
Newmarket-based Callaghan said: "I think he will stay one and a half miles held up. I left him in the Derby and it would have looked a bad investment if he had been run over today!.
"But his owner probably has 10 better than mine and he could be the lead horse."
Epsom's Blue Riband Trial Stakes next week was suggested as a possible target, and the trainer added: "We will have to see. He might have had a harder race than we thought, but he has not had to do any travelling today. The Lingfield Derby Trial is another possibility.
"I won the Lingfield race with Corrupt and he started joint favourite for the Derby, but he wasn't good enough I knew that before the race though.
"He finished fifth or sixth and the winner, Generous, was different class - but I don't think he is as good a horse as Magistretti, who I think is a horse you will hear more of."
Dunhill Star's trainer Barry Hills said: "He is an inexperienced horse and considering how firm the ground is he has run an extremely good race. All being well, the Dante at Yorkis the race I have in mind for him and that would be his next outing."
Alec Stewart was opening his account for the season when Tarjman gave weight all round and beat Dazzling Bay with rather more in hand than the official half-length margin in the Exning Stakes (Showcase Handicap).
His trainer said: "I thought it was going to be like Selective (second on Wednesday) and he was not going to get a run, but he did and he did it well I am very pleased with that and I think we will stick to six furlongs rather than go seven."
Nevisian Lad had an even closer call than Magistretti, the photograph revealing that Fallon had got him home by only a short head from Soonest in the four-runner Creature Comfort EBF Maiden Stakes.
The colt was making his racecourse debut, but trainer Bell reckoned this was in fact his third success, explaining: "I trained his mother Corndavon and she won twice while she was in foal!
"He is the only colt I have in serious work at the moment. I have got some sharp two-year-old fillies but I can't work him with them because he might have his mind on other things."
Looking ahead, he went on: "He is a tough little horse and he really quickened up well after giving them five lengths at the start. The Garter Stakes at Ascot in a couple of weeks is a possibility."
Desert Destiny is another likely to have a Classic target after impressing with a five-length success in the hands of Frankie Dettori in the Ousden Maiden Stakes.
He is owned by Sheikh Mohammed and is trained by David Loder, who said: "I would like to supplement him for the French 2000 Guineas, I did not even enter him for the English 2000.
"At the time he had only a BHB rating of 90 and I thought we should not get too excited, but then he started to show what he was capable of and his work has been of the highest order in the past couple of weeks."
Loder went on: "Our horses have been working well for the past month really and we made plans for this week at Newmarket, Folkestone and Ripon, and they have all come to fruition."
