Dream To Dress may go for Oaks
Weld indicated yesterday that the imposing daughter of Theatrical is under strong consideration for the fillies classic.
Dream To Dress won her maiden at Fairyhouse earlier in the month, cruising to a three lengths defeat of Lady Fonic.
She worked at the Curragh yesterday morning and afterwards Weld reported: “I was pleased, she went very, very well and is a definite possibility for Epsom. The alternative is the Ribblesdale Stakes at York.”
Weld had an upbeat bulletin on Irish Derby winner Grey Swallow, hero of Sunday’sTattersalls Gold Cup at headquarters, where he beat Bago.
“He has come out of the race great, but it is doubtful if he will go to York,” said Weld. “He will probably wait for the King George (Newbury).”
Tomorrow night at Leopardstown, four times Irish Leger winner, Vinnie Roe, makes his eagerly awaited seasonal debut in the Saval Beg Stakes. “He is very forward,” confirmed Weld.
Meanwhile, Irish 1000 Guineas winner Saoire will bid for a Classic double in the Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh in July but more immediate plans have yet to be finalised.
“The Irish Oaks is definitely on the agenda whether or not we run her in the meantime we’ll have to sit down and have a look,” said trainer Frances Crowley, who made history when she became the first licensed woman trainer to win an Irish Classic.
“She’s grand this morning and she seems fine after the race.
“I suppose if she was to run in the meantime it would be the Coronation Stakes at York or the Epsom Oaks but we are going to have to think about that.”
Ms Crowley is confident that Saoire will stay the extra half a mile in the Irish Oaks. “We actually thought she maybe needed a mile and two or a mile and a half. We were taking our chance in the Guineas and the plan was to go for the Oaks (Irish) after that,” the Curragh-based trainer added.
Meanwhile, David Wachman may also run Luas Line and Damson, third and ninth respectively behind Saoire, at York. The two might challenge for the Coronation Stakes.
“There is a possibility they could both go to York,” said Wachman. “I have no doubt Damson stays a mile. She had a desperate preparation for the Curragh, so I was happy with her.
“It was a good performance by Luas Line and the two fillies are fine today.”
Wachman has yet to decide on whether or not to run Fracas in the Vodafone Derby on saturday week.
The trainer hopes to walk the track at Epsom before committing his colt, who has won both his trials at Sandown and Leopardstown this spring, to the blue riband.
“The Derby is definitely in the mix of things,” he continued. “He’s OK and we’ll see what happens closer to the time. He seems in good shape and he’s still a possible for Epsom.
“I’ll walk the track one day this week if I get chance.”
Richard Quinn has opted to ride The Geezer in the Derby.
The Scot had a choice of three possible rides in the premier Classic having also partnered John Dunlop’s duo Kong and Unfurled in their trials.
Ouija Board is on course to return to action in the Audi Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh next month.
Trainer Ed Dunlop now reports last year’s dual Oaks and Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf winner to be making progress.
