Katie gives polished display on Barrow Walk
The teenager went for glory passing the four furlong pole and then brought the son of Alphabatim wide into the straight.
Favourite, Cafaygusulla, was soon giving chase, but Barrow Walk had plenty left, surging clear to score by two and a half lengths.
It was a second success for Ms Walsh, the first came at Gowran Park on her father’s Hannon, and Mullins indicated that his gelding will now be launched over hurdles.
Willie Mullins’ Mystical Memories was best for money in the opening maiden hurdle, finding 5-2 from 7-2.
She very much looked the likely winner when Ruby Walsh eased her ahead coming away from three out.
Escenica, however, was hard driven by Mark Walsh to lead just before the final flight and then drew clear to score by four lengths.
Trainer, Susan Finn, indicated that her charge had got "jarred up” previously at Limerick in July and, if alright, would turn out again at Cork on Sunday in a handicap.
Another having a first pop since July, Jakeups Fold, easily won the moderate Waterford and Tramore Directors’ Handicap Hurdle.
He forged into the lead under Keith Hadnett going to the second last and was soon clear. For Callan, Co Kilkenny handler, John O’Shea, it was a change of luck.
“We couldn’t get a winner and have had five seconds and three thirds through the summer”, said O’Shea.
“This horse has ability and there is a good race in him, if he puts his mind to it!”
Former pointer, Chilled Sweet, was described as “an ordinary little girl” by trainer, Pat Doyle, after she had landed the Gain Horse Feeds Handicap Chase.
Davy Russell drove her to the front three out and though market leader, A New Story, under pressure a long way from home, stayed on he was still a length and a half adrift at the line.
Doyle reported that the daughter of Executive Perk had failed to come into foal when covered, but might have one more run and then be covered again in the spring.
Mark Flynn (22) from Enfield, Co Meath, rode his second winner in Ireland aboard Benwilt Gold in the Unecol Oil Company Claiming Race.
Dash Of Grey kicked on three quarters of a mile out, but Flynn produced Benwilt Gold with perfect timing to sweep into the lead inside the final furlong.
Formerly apprenticed to Christy Roche, he spent three seasons in England, where he rode 23 winners.
Cathy Gannon’s attempt to consolidate her position at the top of the apprentice table, she leads Rory Cleary 32-26, was sunk without trace in the Guillemane Maiden.
She was on favourite, Purple Spirit, who led with five furlongs to run. But Purple Spirit was gone two furlongs down, as Bauhaus and David Condon eased away to score by eight lengths.
It was a first ever victory for handler, Charles O’Brien, at this track and Bauhaus now goes to Newmarket for the horses in training sale.
Desert Of Gold, driven to the front early in the straight by Seamus Heffernan, beat Goose Island a comfortable length and a half in the Sponsor A Race At Tramore Handicap.
