Montevideo can defy top weight

JOHN OXX’S Montevideo is fancied to defy top weight in the Fitzsimmons Property Finance Handicap at Naas this evening.

Montevideo can defy top weight

The Sadler’s Wells colt may have the steadier of 9-10 in the plate, but could have been let in lightly!

Following a couple of promising enough efforts, he justified some hefty wagers when landing a maiden at Leopardstown last month.

Backed from 7-4 to 11-10, Montevideo went to the front a furlong and a half down and wasn’t overly troubled in the closing stages to beat Prominent Feature by a snug three parts of a length.

Prominent Feature went into that contest with a rating of 86 and the handicapper has taken the form literally, allowing the selection to race here off a mark of 88.

Aidan O’Brien’s Mahogany, a costly failure on his debut, can recoup the losses in the Irish Rover Dog Treats Median Auction Maiden.

The son of Orpen made his debut at Leopardstown in May, went off a 4-6 chance, but could only manage a poor fourth behind Jemmy’s Brother.

The form is ordinary, but Mahogany should be given the benefit of the doubt, because the surface was very testing on that occasion and the Ballydoyle juveniles are generally improving plenty for an outing.

Jim Bolger’s once-raced Tropical Lady looks the right one in the Irish Stallion Farms Fillies Maiden.

She is entitled to come on plenty for her initial outing, which yielded a head second to Middlemarch at the Curragh.

Coup De Chance, who stays well and was far from disgraced in finishing eighth of 20 in the handicap won by Ivowen at the Curragh, gets the nod in the Summer Barbeque Claiming Race.
