Summer’s Eve set to shine
As a sister to Ascot Gold Cup winner Papineau and a half-sister to Derby runner-up Silver Patriarch, it was hardly surprising when she achieved little over seven furlongs on her racecourse debut last October.
But it was a different story when she reappeared over 10 furlongs at Windsor a little more than a fortnight ago.
Paddock inspection left the impression she had done well over the winter and so it proved on the track as she raced close to the strong early pace, took the lead two furlongs out and, despite being collared by The Last Drop close home, maintained her gallop to the line.
Pencilled in for the Dante and Derby, the winner is clearly a useful sort, so Summer’s Eve came out of the race with great credit and can go one better.
Another interesting runner at Folkestone is Compromiznotension, who made a highly satisfactory debut last season and should open his account in the Betdaq Telebet at 0870 178 1221 Maiden Stakes.
Michael Jarvis has made a bright start to the turf campaign with four winners from 11 three-year-old runners, so lack of fitness is unlikely to be an issue and Compromiznotension can be judged on the merits of his debut effort alone.
Finishing under five lengths behind 1000 Guineas hopeful Queen’s Best when third over six furlongs at Newmarket in late October was a promising effort for an unraced juvenile.
The way he kept going in the closing stages gave the distinct impression he will be suited by the extra furlong so a big run is expected.
Elsewhere, Mick Channon could be on the mark with Gracechurch in the 32Red Online Poker Room Handicap at Bath.
