Casey suffers bad hip injury

DAVID CASEY was in a Dublin hospital last night with a hip injury following a horror fall at Fairyhouse yesterday.

The jockey was taken to Blanchardstown Hospital on the outskirts of the city after his tumble from Emotional Article in the Menolly Homes Handicap Hurdle.

Turf Club medical officer Dr Walter Halley said: “He’s had a horrible fall and has a significant injury to his right hip.

“He is also in a collar and will have a full body X-ray examination and has gone to Blanchardstown Hospital. He is fully conscious.”

Casey only returned to action in early February following a near three-month lay-off after breaking his left leg in a fall at Wexford in November.

The rider made a glorious comeback within days when winning the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Leopardstown on Rule Supreme for Willie Mullins.

He is due to partner leading fancy Hedgehunter for the same trainer in the John Smith’s Grand National at Aintree on Saturday week.

Paul Carberry had a fall from Definate Spectacle in the same race at Fairyhouse yesterday and was stood down for the rest of the day with a soft-tissue injury to his right knee.
