Rosnagowloge has found his real vocation in life - jumping
At Limerick last night, he made it two from two over flights when landing the Personal Protection Novice Hurdle.
Despite a couple of indifferent leaps, Rosnagowloge powered to the front for Barry Geraghty off the home turn.
The Screamer emerged as a possible danger, but found little for pressure and the winner surged away to score by six lengths.
“He’ll make a nice chaser”, remarked a clearly well pleased Hogan. “If alright, he will now go for a two and a half mile conditions hurdle at Galway next Thursday.”
David Wachman’s Showbiz went off a strong favourite for the Irish Stallion Farms’ fillies Maiden, finding 4-7 from 4-6, and didn’t disappoint her brave supporters.
Jamie Spencer had her in front after a furlong and Showbiz answered the call up the straight to resist the persistent challenge of the promising Frances Crowley’s trained newcomer, Saoire.
“She only does enough in front and the ground would have been plenty fast enough”, reported Wachman. “We won’t be in any hurry, but will be chasing black type in the autumn.”
The somewhat frustrating Big King, under an immaculate Ruby Walsh drive, put it all together to take the Limerick Live 95FM Maiden Hurdle.
He was none too good at the first, but Walsh sat tight and tracked the leaders for much of the journey.
Big King edged on coming away from three out and was always carrying too many guns for Lough Ville in the closing stages.
“Ruby says to run him in the Dawn Dairies Handicap Hurdle on the Saturday of Galway”, commented trainer, Gerard O’Leary.
“If he doesn’t get into that race, then he’ll run at Galway on the Sunday.”
Bocaccio, who landed a major touch at Leopardstown previously, was again entrusted with some decent wagers in the mile handicap.
Backed from 7-4 to 5-4, the layers got a bit back as a 12lbs rise in the weights ultimately was his undoing, although losing a shoe through the contest was hardly a help.
The favourite never trvaelled as well as he had done eight days earlier and was only fifth off the home turn.
He batttled on gamely, but could not cope with the late burst of Karramalu, who was in receipt of a stone and a half.
The filly is trained by Mark Loughnane, who said: “She was very unlucky here the last day and we were going to keep her fresh for Galway. But she likes Limerick and the decision was made to take in this and then go to Galway.”
Mrs Gillow, running over a mile and a half for the first time, streaked away with the SAP Landscapes Handicap.
Trained by Jim Bolger and confidently handled by Kevin Manning, the winner eased ahead early in the straight and quickly stretched clear.
Casadei, impressive at Ballinrobe previously, produced a decent effort to defy top weight in the Limerick Live 95FM Breakfast Show Handicap Hurdle.
Clochmhaoil Castle made a brave attempt form the front, but a misstake two out didn’t help, and Roger Loughran soon drove Casadei into the lead for a hard-earned length success.
Glenbane Lady, having a first outing for Joe Crowley, battled on well to win the Bumper, getting the better of Hickory Hill through the final two furlongs.
“She was pre-trained by Karl Wyse and came to us about six weeks ago in great nick”, said Crowley.
