7:32pm: Ciara Mageean out of the Olympics
Ireland’s Ciara Mageean has been forced to withdraw from Tuesday's 1500m heats due to injury.
In her final weeks of preparation for the Paris Olympics, Mageean has been dealing with painful chronic Achilles issues.
“I’m absolutely heartbroken not to be able to compete in my third Olympic Games," said Mageean,
"I gave it everything to make it possible to be on the start line, but time was against me. I want to thank everyone for all their support.”

: Cork's Shane Sweetnam on qualifying as second fastest for Tuesday's showjumping final
“He jumped great, still had a lot of energy which I was a little worried about because this is unknown territory and it’s quite hot out today, but the course was straightforward,” said Florida-based Sweetnam.
“The big thing I wanted was to be quick enough, that if I knocked one that I’d still have a chance for tomorrow. He just loves to jump! Normally we have clear rounds and he was a bit unlucky the last two days. When I watched the video of Friday, I think he breathed on it! I don’t know what happened but in the replay it looked like he didn’t touch it. You just have to have a little bit of luck and today we had luck.”
Cian O'Connor has finished in 33rd place and will not go through to the final tomorrow. Shane Sweetnam and Daniel Coyle finished second and third in the table which will give them a good seeding in the standing order for the final tomorrow.
Due to insufficient wind in Marseille the boats in the Men's Dinghy have been sent to shore with the results from yesterday standing in place of today's races. Finn Lynch will race again tomorrow in the final race.
Cian O'Connor and Maurice finish their round with four faults in a time of 75.17 and currently sitting in 30th position with seven riders to go. It will be a nervous wait for O'Connor to see if they make it into the final tomorrow.
O'Connor had to wait to start his round as Maurice pulled a shoe in the warm-up and had to get it reapplied by the ferrier at the course.
Eve McMahon has finished seventh in race nine. She is provisionally in 13th going into the final race in her debut games.
Daniel Coyle and Legacy have jumped a clear round in the Individual Show Jumping qualifier in a time of 73.64 to qualify for tomorrow's final and currently sit in second place just behind Shane Sweetnam. Just Cian O'Connor left to go for Ireland.
Ciara McGing spoke with RTÉ after her 10m Platform diving qualifier. While disappointed with her performance, McGing was lucky to make the competition having been sick for the 48 hours leading into the qualifier.
"I am a bit upset and embarrassed at how I dived today cause I know I am much better than that. I have been very ill for the last 48 hours, hooked up to a drip and everything so I am very, very grateful for the doctors at Team Ireland that I even got here today. If it was this time yesterday I wouldn’t have been here. I am proud that the village behind me got me here this morning.
"I don’t want to use it an excuse but obviously not the ideal situation.
"I would never withdraw, you would have had to fight me not to get on that 10m. I am just very grateful it was yesterday and not this morning."
Shane Sweetnam is the first up for the Irish in the Individual Show Jumping qualifier. He jumped an impressive clear round in a time of 73.35s on James Kann Cruz and puts him top of the leaderboard as it stands and progress into tomorrow's final.
A Team Ireland message on X states that Ciara McGing had been suffering from a viral infection in the days leading up to her competition and had been unsure if she would be able to compete. A difficult lead up for her first Olympic Games competition and impressive feat to be able to participate despite illness in the lead-up.
"Ciara’s been Suffering from a viral infection for the past few days, she was on an intravenous drip all day Sunday and unsure she would be able to compete. But with the excellent support of the Team Ireland doctors she was able to start this morning and complete her round of 5 dives.
"Well done Ciara, you’re an Olympian."
Next up for Team Ireland is the Individual Show Jumping qualifier which will see Shane Sweetnam, Daniel Coyle and Cian O'Connor take to the course at the Chateau de Versailles at 1pm. Top 30 will progress to the final including all those tied for 30th place.
Eve McMahon was due out on the water for the Women's Dinghy race nine at 11.15am but that race has been delayed. This will have a knock on effect for race ten which was due to take place at 12.23pm.
Sharlene Mawdsley was agonizingly close to the 400m semi-final and was speaking to RTÉ after her heat about her PB performance.
"I said you know what it’s the Olympics go out and go for it. I know I am in good shape. I think I just got a little carried away towards the end and I said you have it, you have it, you have it and I didn’t. It was so close though, I would have qualified in this heat like 51.36. It’s mad but that’s the way the games go and I am proud of that performance."
"Honestly I am in a good position here and I just wanted to fight for it. I was pretending that I was in a relay so I am usually good at that. I got caught a bit towards the end. I genuinely just think its lack of experience being out there with the world’s best, it’s a little bit scary but I am proud of that performance. It’s not everyday that you run a PB and to run it at the Olympic games is really great for me."
Mawdsley was delighted when she was told that her PB run was under the World Standard for next year which is 50.75.
"That’s honestly the best news I could have asked for. That’s everything. I always had an aim if I didn’t get out of the heats and I had to do repechage I was like please get the standard. I wasn’t sure if it was 70 or 75 and I ran 71 that’s great news I am really happy with that."
Rhasidat Adeleke was speaking to RTÉ after winning her heat and she is happy to get her debut Olympic games up and running.
"It felt so good. It was so fun. My coach just said run the first 200 and just make sure in contention the whole time. As soon as you can break off the pace and I feel like I done that really well up at the last 100. I was looking around to make sure that I was still in contention and it felt really good."
Rhasidat Adeleke turned in a controlled, classy performance in her Olympic debut at the Stade de France this morning, the 21-year-old coasting to victory in her 400m heat to advance to Wednesday’s semi-finals, clocking 50.09.
The Dubliner utilised her vast range of gears over the opening half of the race, powering to the lead at a swift but relaxed pace. By then, the race was fully within her command, Adeleke building a lead of several metres over chief rival Alexis Holmes of USA as she turned for home.
The semi-final will take place on Wednesday evening.
Sharlene Mawdsley was drawn alongside world champion Marileidy Paulino of Dominican Republic, and Paulino looked well within herself as she coasted to victory in 49.42. Mawdsley threw herself into contention with a strong opening half and turned for home in third place, but surrendered the automatic qualifying spot in the final metres to Susanne Gogl-Walli of Austria, who she’d clashed with at the World Indoors in Glasgow back in March, Mawdsley clocking a lifetime best of 50.71 to finish fourth.
Sophie Becker went out strongly in her heat, the Wexford athlete turning for home contending with the leaders and very much in the hunt for a top-three spot. She faded in the home straight but held on well through the last 50m to finish sixth in 51.84, a race won by 2019 world champion Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain in 49.91.
Ciara McGing finishes with a score of 38.40 in her fifth dive to get 188.50 overall. It was a tough morning for McGing in her first Olympics finishing in 29th place.
The 400m Women's heats take place this morning with three Irish athletes running. First up at 10.55am in heat one will be Sophie Becker. Sharlene Mawdsley will run in heat five at 11.27am and Rhasidat Adeleke will make her Olympic debut when she runs in heat six at 11.35am.
First three in each heat will progress to the semi-finals, everyone will go in the repechage round.
It's a tough day for Ciara McGing with another poor entry for her fourth dive getting a score of 26.10 leaving her with 150.10 overall and well outside the top 18.
A much better third dive from Ciara McGing with a score of 50.40 to leave her with 124.00 overall. Two more dives left.
Ciara McGing's second dive scored her a 40.00 with trouble on her entry. A slight improvement on her first dive but a tough start for the Irish diver with a total of 73.60 for her first two dives.
Not the best start for Ciara McGing with her first dive, scores 33.60. She has four more dives to go so plenty of time to get her score up. The best 18 divers from the preliminary round go through to the semi-final.
First up for the Irish today in Paris is Ciara McGing in the Women's 10m Platform diving at 9am.
