Sligo's Mona McSharry has cast doubts over her future saying in an interview post her team medley relay saying that this may be her last Olympic games.

McSharry, fresh from swimming the breaststroke in the 4x100m Medley Relay after breaking the Irish record, was speaking to RTÉ after the race in which she dropped the bombshell. 

When asked about the highs of winning bronze she said "Its been unbelievable, I couldnt have asked for anything better.

"I think with all the training, the dreams, knowing that this is most likely my last Olympics so I am really happy to come away with a medal".

Her team mates on chorus said that she will be there with them for LA in 2028 to which McSharry replied "I will be excited to go to LA and watch these ladies."

McSharry won a bronze medal on Monday in the Women's 100m Breaststroke final. The 23-year-old has has a turbulent swimming career after falling out of love witht he sport in 2022 and has opened up about her mental health struggles. 

Finally claiming an Olympic medal saw her shed tears of joy mixed with memories of all the hard work and mental health struggles. 

Swimming alongside her team mates Danielle Hill, Ellen Walshe and 16-year-old Grace Davison they were vocal in their support that McSharry will be there with them when LA 2028 rolls round saying that "she's got it".

Speaking about the relay race McSharry was delighted to finish the week on a high with an Irish record. 

"It was great. I think I couldn't have asked for a better finish there was we were all having a great time in the prep area this morning and just having a bit of fun and so that was that was really nice.

"I think to be able to finish off the week, regardless of what happened earlier with the ladies and you know getting a new Irish senior record was great."

Speaking about the week in which she will bring home an Olympic bronze the Sligo woman said 

"It's been great. Honestly a roller coaster you know like some highs, some more disappointing races but overall I'm super happy and kind of sad that it's over but excited to take a little break."
