McKillop: Golden moment is 'something special'
Team Ireland athlete Michael McKillop has said securing his second gold medal at the London Paralympic Games last night was an unforgettable moment.
The 22-year-old, who has cerebral palsy, brought Ireland's gold medal tally to five and also set a new Paralympic record in the 1500 metres T37 final.
Michael was presented with his gold medal by his mother Catherine, who acted as ambassador for the official Games sponsors P&G.
He said that was something very special.
Michael said: "Yeah, it's one of those moments that you don't think are ever going to come in your lifetime and when it does it is something special.
"I think it is something that has never happened in the Olympics or Paralympic Games.
"To be presented with my medal in the Paralympic Games by my mum is something special and something I will never forget."
President Michael D Higgins has congratulated the sprinter on his second gold medal at the Games.
President Higgins said: "It is heartening to see an athlete enjoying himself and demonstrating such warmth for his fellow competitors."
