The opening match of the day at the Australian Open ended when Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues injured her knee in the seventh game against 10th seed Monica Seles.

Garrigues had broken in the first game, but trailed 2-4 0-15 when she stretched and went down writhing in agony.
