Number one seed Jennifer Capriati continued her quest to retain the Australian Open title with a 6-2 6-2 quarter-final victory over Amelie Mauresmo.

The opening match of the day at the Australian Open ended when Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues injured her knee in the seventh game against 10th seed Monica Seles.
