Wimbledon: Capriati comeback continues
Jennifer Capriati kept alive hopes of an incredible calendar Grand Slam with a
6-3 6-2 win over Venezuela's Maria Alejandra Vento.
But the winning scoreline did not fully reflect the battle the Australian and French Open champion was put through by her tenacious opponent.
The American made an awful start, broken to 15 in the first game of the match, and a number of misjudged drives from the baseline prevented her recovering the initiative until the sixth game.
Vento's downfall was her poor serving and as the set progressed her problems got worse.
Broken for 3-3, she then hit three double faults in her following game to give Capriati the break and effectively the set.
From then on it got easier for the comeback kid, who breezed through the second set, gaining in composure all the time.
