Mosley waits on McLaren’s dossier against Renault

FIA president Max Mosley has promised motor sport’s world governing body will act if McLaren provide enough evidence against Renault in the latest twist in the spy saga.

The controversy that has overshadowed Formula One for more than three months could take a new turn if McLaren file a damning dossier on another of their rivals.

McLaren were handed a record-breaking £50m fine and stripped of all their constructors’ points for the year at a World Motor Sport Council hearing in Paris last Thursday.

The British-based team were penalised after a 780-page dossier of Ferrari technical information was discovered at the home of their chief designer Mike Coughlan.

Now there is the prospect of McLaren filing a complaint against Renault.

Defiant Renault boss Flavio Briatore insists this case is not the same as the one that has dominated the headlines since early July. Mosley, though, will act if McLaren provide any evidence.

“We haven’t had the complaint or the detail we have been promised from McLaren about that, but when we get it, we will investigate,” confirmed Mosley.

“We’ve had a dossier from Renault which doesn’t look particularly damning, but then again, you wouldn’t expect it to.

“It’s allegedly an employee who took some floppy disks with him, but we must wait and see what comes out from McLaren.”
