Chancer denied overall victory by X-Dream
It was a repeat of the previous week as the fleets headed out to Hake Head on a difficult beat. MacMagic was over at the start line but despite having to go back and restart they were still first around the weather mark. Then the fleet had a roller coaster spinnaker ride against a now falling tide with gains made by keeping close to Moneypoint.
The Carroll brothers on Chancer won both IRC and Echo on the day with Tom Roche’s Isobar second in both handicaps and the Riordan-Murphy pair on X-Dream third. But they had the last laugh as X-Dream took the overall in both divisions with Chancer second and Isobar third.
In Class Two, the McCarthys on MacMagic won the race in both handicaps and also the series in both. Clem McElligott’s Sea Hawk was second in both handicaps in the race and also the league. In Class Three Mike Sexton’s Granny Knot won the race from Padraigh O’Donovan’s Chameleon in IRC and with it the overall, Chameleon being second. But in Echo the roles were reversed on the day and also in the overall.
Conditions were totally different for Kinsale’s Kist Boutique all in and white sail race at the weekend with warm sunshine and a southerly of ten knots.
The 16-strong fleet beat out the harbour to Centrepoint on an ebbing tide and on rounding reached across to the Sovereigns mark, Conor Doyle’s Freya led around both marks but Dave O’Connell on Canterbury and Tom Roche on Isobar were both on their heels.
