McCann powers to 15th in world championships

DAVID McCANN (Grant Thornton Team Ireland) powered around a tough 46.75km time-trial course based in Bardolino and Lake Garda yesterday in a time of 1:14:94 to finish 15th in the world championship event won by Australian Michael Rogers.

The 31-year-old from Belfast put in an impressive ride but was disappointed having missed out on a top 10 place by only 16 seconds.

After a slow start McCann was in 32nd place overall at the first split, moved up to 18th after the second sector and finally got into top gear at the finish. His final split time of 23:34:09 was third fastest overall but the 2004 Irish time-trial champion ran out of road.
