Séamus Power boosted his chances of retaining his full PGA Tour card with a third round 65 at the RSM Classic in Georgia. The tournament is the final event of the FedExCup Fall with the top 100 in the rankings earning full tour privileges. Power entered this week 129th in the standings, likely needing a top three finish to breach the top 100.
The Waterford man's five-under round on Saturday leaves him on 15-under for the tournament, four shots behind Finnish leader Sami Valimaki, and just two behind Americans Patrick Rodgers and Michael Thorbjornsen who are tied for second.
Power started poorly with a bogey on the fourth but an eagle at the par-5 seventh got him moving. He then carded three consecutive birdies on the back nine.
The 38-year-old is currently tied for seventh, a finish which would only move him up to 113th in the standings.
Lee Hodges is one of those tied with Power. The American entered this week 122nd in the rankings.
"I don't know if I'm going to ruffle some feathers, but the guys that come in here and kind of feel sorry for themselves, I have no pity for because you played it, you know what I mean? You played every shot this year," he said.
"Same way as me, like I'm where I am because of my golf, nobody anybody else's golf. Nobody put me there, I put myself there.
"You just are where you are, but we all have avenues out so just go do that, you know what I mean? Go take the road that gets you where you want to go."
