Sara Byrne produced an excellent performance to finish the first round of her first Ladies European Tour event as a professional golfer on two under par.

The Douglas native made her professional debut at the La Sella Golf Resort in Alicante on Thursday and she will be pleased with her efforts having shot a score of 70.

The 23-year-old may have shown some initial signs of nerves as she bogeyed her opening hole but the Corkwoman bounced back impressively to birdie the par five 12th and 18th to get into red numbers at the turn.

After a bogey at her 10th (first hole), she rebounded immediately at the par five 2nd hole before making another gain on the 6th, a par three.

Byrne knew she needed to make two pars on the 8th and 9th (she started her round on 10th) for a two under 70 and she would do it the hard way, ending with a birdie and a bogey to leave her in a good position in the standings heading into Friday.
