He spent some time on Facebook yesterday, posting an update on his trip to Shanghai and then responding to fans who commented on his post.

One commenter, Barry Edwards, decided to push his luck a little.

He said: “Nice plug m8. P.s I still need a new Driver. Any chance of one of your old NIKE ones fella?”.

We don’t think Barry was expecting the answer he got a few minutes later.

“Sure,” McIlroy answered. “I'll send you a Nike covert driver. Served me well!

“Message me your address and my team will ship it to you.”

Fair play Rory, you made Barry’s day.

Unsurprisingly though, the major winner was then inundated with requests for various gold items.
