'Throw whatever fine at me,' Kildare woman caught driving at 147km/h told gardaí

“Throw whatever fine at me,” a woman told gardaí after they stopped her for speeding.

Garda Foy told Portlaoise District Court last week that he stopped the defendant, Geraldine Phibbs (39), Lee Drive, Kilcock, Co Kildare after he detected her driving at a speed of 147km/h at Cappagh, Portlaoise, which is a 120km/h area, on 8 February.

He said: “When I showed her the speed she had been doing, she became upset and said she wanted to go home to her children and to throw whatever fine at me.” 

He said the defendant has one previous conviction from Carlow District Court on 8 December in 2021, when she received a €200 fine.

Judge Andrew Cody convicted her on the speeding summons before the court and fined her €500.
