McDowell in high spirits as golfers laud Fota weekend
Graeme McDowell was able to laugh over missed putts as other golfers took to Twitter to praise Fota Island, The Irish Open and the fans.
McDowell’s last tweet before jetting out of Cork referenced his poor putting performance on the final day, and was accompanied by an Instagram picture of him on a Garda bike on the runway.
Robbed on the greens this weekend. Police investigation has begun!! #goodtimes http://t.co/LqMMsxqE6o

Champion Mikko Ilonen has also been on twitter, posting a final picture of himself with
his trophy before heading home.
I have to leave her behind for now.. See ya when I get home! Thank you @fotaisland! pic.twitter.com/p24F6kXcxb

The Finn eventually won by just one shot, after leading the tournament from the
start. We think this lad might be most relieved of all at his win, after
stopping and firmly stepping on Ilonen’s ball during the final day.
Ilonen was given a free drop so no harm done!
Many of the competitors also tweeted to compliment the organisers on a great weekend, and thank fans for all the support.
Thanks to everyone for all the support this week @IrishOpen2014 Nothing quite like playing at home, @fotaisland did a great job all round!

Was playing on my own but wasn't alone out there 💪 #supportiveparish ⛳️👌☀️

Fantastic weather helped to draw large crowds to the event even after the loss of fan
favourite Rory McIlroy. The weekend has been seen as such a success that Cork’s
New RedFM are reporting a possible return of thecompetition to Fota Island sooner rather than later.
