Fisher on the up in Scotland

Ross Fisher’s recent revival continued today in the third round of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Castle Stuart in Inverness.

After slumping from 17th in the world to 157th the Ryder Cup star has had four successive top-10 finishes, including second behind Lee Westwood in Sweden last month, and qualified for the Open Championship.

Resuming on six under par, he birdied the long second and then eagled the driveable 306-yard third to leap to nine under and joint sixth place.

Also going well was 19-year-old Scottish amateur Jack McDonald, seven under with one to go.

McDonald made the cut on his European Tour debut by chipping in for on the final hole late yesterday, resumed with two more birdies and was in a tie for 33rd place.

Italian Francesco Molinari and Swede Alexander Noren led at 12 under overnight, with world number one and defending champion Luke Donald only three back and American star Phil Mickelson five back following his second round 64.
