Stunning start gives Olesen lead in Turin
Thorbjorn Olesen was nine under through 16 holes on the final day at the Italian Open as he stormed into a two-shot lead in Turin.
The 21-year-old Dane’s brilliant run was marred only by a bogey on the par-five 11th, with eight birdies and an eagle on the third putting him 19 under par overall.
Englishman Robert Rock, the outright leader after rounds two and three, did not fare as well as Olesen at the third and had to settle for a bogey five, but birdied the fifth and sixth to get back within two shots of the leader.
Gregory Bourdy was alongside Rock in joint second. It would have been even better for the Frenchman had he not blotted his copybook with a bogey on nine after five birdies over the first eight holes.
Sweden’s Michael Jonzon was six under through 13, England’s Chris Wood four under after 10 and Scotland’s Peter Whiteford three under through nine in a tie for fourth, three shots adrift of Olesen.
Niclas Fasth of Sweden, whose blistering eight-under par 64 was the highlight of yesterday, was a further shot back – one under through six holes – in joint seventh.
