McIlroy on the move in Wentworth

Rory McIlroy, who squeezed into the final two rounds of the BMW PGA Championship with nothing to spare, continued to move through the field at Wentworth today.

The 22-year-old, who improved six shots on his opening 76 to survive, went to the turn in a two under 33 with birdies at the fourth and sixth.

At two over par, however, he was still eight strokes adrift of joint overnight leaders Luke Donald, Alvaro Quiros and Matteo Manassero.

But at least McIlroy was putting himself in a good mood for his other sporting date today – the Champions League final at Wembley.

The world number six is a big Manchester United fan and even received a long text message from Sir Alex Ferguson after his closing 80 at The Masters last month.
