Choi's good work undone at the end

KJ Choi came within one hole of an extraordinary third round Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial before his day was ruined by a quadruple bogey at the 18th.

After seven birdies and an eagle, Choi was on target for an eight-under round of 62 before he hit trouble on the final hole.

His tee shot went left, he found the water with his third, then skidded past the green with his sixth, before eventually putting from eight yards to sign for a 66.

A par on the last would have put him firmly in contention on 14 under for the weekend, two strokes behind Bryce Molder.

The overnight leader continued his good form – he was three under through 12 to lead by two strokes from a group of five players on 14 under.

That group included Ben Crane, six under through 17, and England’s Brian Davis, who was three under with five to play.

He had hit three birdies and no bogeys in his round, to sit alongside Americans Zach Johnson, Jeff Overton and Jason Bohn.
