Fisher's Open bid in the balance
Ross Fisher, the European who came closest to winning the US Open last month, still does not know if he will even be playing The Open this week.
Or, if he does, how long he will last at Turnberry.
Fisher, fifth at Bethpage, remains in supremely confident mood after an eighth place finish on his return to action at the Scottish Open.
But almost immediately after handing in his scorecard he was off to the airport and flying to London to be with his wife, Jo, who is expecting their first child tomorrow.
However, if there is no sign of things happening he will be back in Scotland by lunchtime tomorrow and will prepare for The Open while awaiting further news.
One thing Fisher is adamant about is that he will be off the moment he is told the baby is coming.
āItās just wait and see,ā said the 28-year-old Wentworth golfer. āIām looking forward to The Open and itās the most important tournament I will play in a calendar year, but what will be will be.
āIt would be great to play and the ideal would be to two-putt to win next Sunday, make a short winnerās speech and then fly home.
āBut there are plenty more Opens. I will be straight out whatever day it is - itās something I donāt want to miss and Iām sure itās something Jo doesnāt want me to miss.ā
