McGrane takes joint lead in South Africa

A stunning 64 has given Irish golfer Damien McGrane a share of the clubhouse lead at the second round of the South African Open today.

He is on 10-under-par, alongside Charl Schwartzel and Lee Westwood.

World number 10 Westwood carded five birdies and a bogey to go with his opening-day 66, while his co-leader McGrane, who won the Volvo China Open last season, had already picked up eight birdies on Thursday.

Overnight leader Fabrizio Zanotti, who has an afternoon tee-off in round two, formed part of a group of five players on eight under including two-time former winner Retief Goosen, Gareth Maybin, Dave Horsey and Len Mattiace.

Chris Wood, who finished fifth at the Open at Royal Birkdale earlier this year, also made a steady start to round two and was seven under through 15, with reigning Masters champion Trevor Immelman on four under overall in the clubhouse.
