Former US Open champion Angel Cabrera made a solid start to the second round of the Castellon Masters, parring his first five holes to remain six under.

The Argentinian began the day one shot back from overnight leader Soren Kjeldsen, and missed a good birdie opportunity on the par-five 13th.

Sweden’s Peter Hanson did draw level with Kjeldsen on seven under with a birdie at the 10th, but last year’s Order of Merit winner Justin Rose remained four under.

The Englishman birdied his first two holes – the 10th and 11th – but immediately dropped those shots with bogeys at the 12th and 13th to keep him three shots back.

In-form Alvaro Quiros was also in the mix with a birdie at the par-four 14th which improved him to five under, continuing the superb form which brought him a second European Tour title at the Portugal Masters last week.

The Spaniard held off challenges from Paul Lawrie and Order of Merit leader Robert Karlsson to clinch that win, which followed a fourth place at the Madrid Masters the previous week.
