The European Tour will return to Austria for the first time in a decade when the BA-CA Golf Open is staged at Fontana Golf Club near Vienna from June 8-11 next year.

The tournament has been part of the Challenge Tour since 2003 but last featured on the main tour in 1996, when it was won by Ireland’s Paul McGinley.

Seven-time European number one Colin Montgomerie has already confirmed he will compete in the £685,000 event.

“This is a very exciting time to have the Austrian Open back on the schedule,” Montgomerie said.

“I think it was a shame that it had been lost off the calendar but the finance and the course and all that is needed to get the Austrian Open back is now in place and it proves how popular the event is.”
