Cloud delays Maderia Open start
Thick cloud today delayed the start of the second round of the Madeira Island Open.
Play was scheduled to begin at 8.30am but the cloud enveloping the Santo da Serra course meant it was impossible to start on time.
The course is perched 2,300 feet above sea level and is often afflicted with similar problems, although the first round was surprisingly completed on schedule shortly after 8pm on Thursday.
Welshman Kyron Sullivan and New Zealand’s Stephen Scahill share the lead after both shot eight-under-par rounds of 64 yesterday.
The cloud cleared quickly and play was able to start at 9.30am, a delay of one hour.
