Jimenez makes early move

Miguel Angel Jimenez made an impressive start in the Omega European Masters this morning in his bid for a fifth win this year.

The Spaniard, who was flying high after success in the BMW International Open last Sunday, made birdies at the first, second and fifth holes at the spectacular Crans-sur-Sierre course in the mountains of Switzerland to go to three under par after seven.

But he was joined at the top of the leaderboard by little-known Argentinian Cesar Monasterio, who followed up an opening birdie four with threes at the sixth and seventh.

There was also a strong group breathing down their necks early on containing Scotland’s Andrew Coltart and Gordon Brand Junior at two under par.

England’s Luke Donald, who was playing the back nine first, joined that group with birdies at the 14th and 15th holes.

He was hoping to celebrate his wild card selection for the forthcoming Ryder Cup with a good showing this week and made a solid start.
