Barnes out of K Club

Ricky Barnes, who as US Amateur champion finished 21st in last year’s Masters at Augusta, was disqualified from the European Open at the K Club near Dublin today.

Barnes, playing on a special invitation, shot a third round 78, but signed for a four on the fifth hole instead of the bogey five he actually took.

Long after he had finished his caddie rang the tournament organisers to find out his Sunday tee-off time.

When he said he was 10 over, not nine over as listed, the mistake was realised and Barnes was contacted to confirm the error.
