Ben Curtis, missing in action for almost a year since winning the British Open, emerged from hibernation to tie for the lead after the opening round at The Memorial Tournament.

Curtis, who grew up only 25 miles from the Muirfield Village course, carded a bogey-free four-under-par 68, tying Ernie Els for the first-round lead.
