Woosnam: I want Ryder Cup place

Ian Woosnam, disappointed not to be leading Europe in next year's Ryder Cup, insisted today that his ambition now is to win back a place on the team and then be captain in 2006.

"I'm going ahead to try to make the team - turn my game around and qualify, then hopefully get the captaincy," said the 45-year-old Welshman, who won the last of his eight caps in 1997.

Woosnam was Sam Torrance's vice-captain last September so there is obviously a chance that Langer will turn to him as well, but the Welshman re-stated that his priority was to concentrate on his own form. His last win was the Cisco World Match Play at Wentworth two years ago.
