Tiger donates millions to youth centre
Champion golfer Tiger Woods has donated $5m (€4.6m) to build a youth education centre in the US.
The Tiger Woods Learning Centre will be free to youths aged eight to 17 and include an education centre next to a 23-acre site that will be used for golf instruction.
The centre will be open 12 hours a day and will offer maths, language arts and science tutoring, as well as character development programmes.
Woods, the top-ranked golfer in the world, plans to open other facilities over the next several years under the umbrella of the foundation that bears his name.
“It just blows my mind that this high school punk kid has a chance to give back where it all started,” Woods said. ”I play golf for selfish reasons. This is something I can do for other people.”
The centre will be at the HG “Dad” Miller Golf Course in Anaheim, California where Woods played as a student athlete at Anaheim’s Western High School in the early 1990s.
