Donald to miss world matchplay
Britain’s Luke Donald has missed out on this week’s Accenture world match play championship in California.
Up to first reserve after the withdrawals of Nick Faldo, Vijay Singh and Toru Taniguchi, Donald needed one more player to pull out before the Monday deadline to come into the 64-man field and earn a clash with top seed Tiger Woods.
There were rumours that Retief Goosen, runner-up in Malaysia on Sunday, had flown to London to be with his wife Tracy, who is expecting their first child soon. But Goosen, the fourth seed, plays American Jay Haas in the first round on Wednesday.
Padraig Harrington meets John Cook, Colin Montgomerie faces Alex Cejka, Darren Clarke tackles South African Tim Clark, while Justin Rose meets David Duval, Paul Lawrie meets Nick Price and Paul Casey takes on Davis Love.
