Colm Moriarty claimed victory at the South of Ireland Championship in Lahinch, Co Clare, yesterday evening, despite suffering back and shoulder injuries in a car crash on Friday.

The 23-year-old Athlone man won on the first hole of a play-off after he and Sligo’s Sean McTernan both carded three-over-par rounds of 75 on the initial 18 holes.

Moriarty secured the win, his first major success, with a three-foot putt on the first play-off hole.
