Maybin wins North of Ireland amateur open

The new North of Ireland Amateur champion is Gareth Maybin, a 21-year-old from Ballyclare, Co Antrim, who beat Clandeboye's Chris Moriarty in the final by one hole.

The new North of Ireland Amateur champion is Gareth Maybin, a 21-year-old from Ballyclare, Co Antrim, who beat Clandeboye's Chris Moriarty in the final by one hole.

Moriarty went one up with a birdie three at the 7th hole and stayed ahead until Maybin levelled the match at the short 14th with par.

Maybin also won the next hole in regulation to go one up and clinched the title with an eight feet putt for par on the home green.

In the semi-finals, Maybin had to go to the 19th before getting past Mark O'Sullivan from Galway while Moriarty beat Noel Crawford (Mourne) by 4&3.
