Golf: Elkington takes one-stroke lead in Georgia

Steve Elkington has taken a one-stroke lead at the BellSouth Classic in Georgia after carding 10 birdies and a double-bogey in his opening round yesterday.

The Australian is on eight under par, one shot ahead of Phil Mickelson, while Thomas Bjorn and Jesper Parnevik are among a group of six players tied for third place on six under.

Ireland’s Padraig Harrington is currently tied for 25th place on three under par along with Colin Montgomerie and Vijay Singh, among others.
