Golf: Woods back in contention

Tiger Woods put himself back into contention with a third round 67 in the rain-affected New Zealand Open.

The world number one posted a three-under-par total of 210, six shots behind joint leaders Steve Alker and Stephen Leaney .

They were left stranded at the 13th and 12th holes respectively when bad light eventually halted play.

The pair were among 14 competitors who will have to return tomorrow to complete their third rounds.

Woods, who started the day eight shots adrift of overnight leaders Leaney and James McLean, fell further behind with a double bogey six at the first.

He bounced back in style with an eagle two after driving the green at the 283-metre par-four sixth.

A three-hour rain delay halted his progress at the 11th before he completed his round to break 70 for the first time this week.

Alker and Leaney were nine under, one ahead of clubhouse leader Michael Campbell.

Kiwi Alker was three under for the day and Leaney had picked up two shots.

New Zealand's Campbell carded a 66 and was tied with Craig Parry who was eight under through 14.

McLean shot a level par 71 to be one shot further back.

Jae An, the 13-year-old qualifier, shot a 71 for a three-over total in his first senior professional event.
