Golf : Jobe and Paulson lead in Southern Farm Bureau Classic

Brandt Jobe fired a six-under-par 66 to join Carl Paulson at the top of the leaderboard midway through the Southern Farm Bureau Classic.

Without a win since joining the PGA Tour in 1991, Jobe reached 11-under 133 with an eagle, six birdies and two bogeys.

He is 126th on the money list and must move up just one spot to remain exempt for the 2002 season. Spike McRoy, who is 124th, missed the cut at six over.

‘‘The first two days have gone nicely, considering the position I’m in,’’ Jobe admitted. ‘‘Through the middle of the year, I was trying to win golf tournaments, everyone does.

‘‘After a while, I was just trying to keep my card. It’s been frustrating. I’m trying too hard.’’

At 117th on the money list, Paulson will avoid a return to qualifying school, but he moved closer to his first victory since turning professional a decade ago.

‘‘I’ve been playing well the last few months,’’ said Paulson, who was runner-up at last year’s Tampa Bay Classic. ‘‘Hopefully, I saved the best for last.’’

Chad Campbell, Andrew Magee, Dicky Pride, Heath Slocum and first-round leader Fred Funk are tied for third at 10-under 134.

Campbell, a recent graduate of the Buy.com Tour, had the best round of the quintet, an eight-under 64. It is another stroke back to Lee Porter and Cameron Beckman.
