Ireland’s Paul McGinley was unable to maintain his flying start and a bogey on the 16th dropped him back to one under par and now three shots off a five-way tie for the lead.

Lynn continued to impress with a fourth birdie of the day on the third, his 12th hole, to move to four under par alongside Sweden’s Anders Forsbrand, New Zealander Elliot Boult, South African Trevor Immelman and Swindon’s David Howell.

Forsbrand and Boult had made the most spectacular starts to be four under after six holes while Howell had gone to the turn in 32 and Immelman had rolled in three birdies in a row from the 10th.
