Players Championship: Harrington slips back after promising start

Padraig Harrington was two under par as he reached the turn in the Players Championship at Sawgrass.

The Irishman, starting the day at one over par, dropped a shot at the second but bounced back with three birdies in the first nine holes to go to two under par.

However, a double bogey six at the tenth saw Harrington slip back to even par, before he recovered with a birdie at the par five 11th to go back to one under.

Scotland's Colin Montgomerie, two under par at the start of play, made a great start to his third round with a birdie at the second to go to three under.

Darren Clarke is even par for the day, and level par for the championship at the 11th.

Former Master champion Jose Maria Olazabal, starting the day at four over, shot a 68 to go to one under for the championship.

But it was a disappointing day for Nick Faldo who was four over par for the day at the 15th and six over for the championship.

Ian Woosnam was also struggling to come to terms with the course, dropping seven shots up to the 14th to go to nine over.

American David Toms shot a 66 - including seven birdies - for the best round of the day, to move into contention at six under.

Unknown American Jerry Kelly, who is still to start his third round, leads the event at nine under par with Paul Azinger one shot further back.

Vijay Singh is two shot further back, while Tiger Woods and Phil Mickleson are both at three under.
