Paul McGinley is the next-best placed Irishman in joint 34th on one under, though he has yet to tee off today.

But Darren Clarke has a mountain to climb if he is to make any headway. Clarke, who tees off later this morning, is way off the pace in 134th place on five over.

South Africa's Roger Wessels heads the board on four under after 15 holes.
