In-form Lee Westwood bids to connect four wins at Nordea Masters
A win in Stockholm from the nine-time Ryder Cup player would make him the first to win the event four times.
Westwood went into the final round at Wentworth just two shots off the lead and buoyed by finishing second in the Masters and 10th in the Irish Open in his previous two events.
However, the former world number one struggled to a closing 76 in his 23rd consecutive appearance in the European Tourās flagship event to finish in a tie for 15th, six shots behind winner Chris Wood.
āIām hitting the ball well, but Iād obviously like to make more putts on the greens, as would we all,ā Westwood told a pre-tournament press conference. āBut tee to green, Iāve been very good recently and my chipping has also been great so Iām just waiting for everything to come together and hopefully that can be this week.
āIām on the right lines, as my results have shown, so thereās no reason to change too much. The main thing is to keep enjoying my golf, which Iām doing at the moment.ā
Westwood could hardly have picked a better tournament in which to chase a first victory of the season, the 43-year-old having won the Nordea Masters in 1996, 2000, and 2012, as well as finishing runner-up in 2001.
The last of those wins came at this weekās venue of Bro Hof Slott Golf Club and a repeat performance would make him the first to win the event four times.
