East Cork women chase treble at inter-club championships

Monkstown Golf Club will be a hive of activity this week as it plays host to the national finals of the Private Home Care inter-club women’s championships from tomorrowthrough to Saturday.

An estimated 15,000 golfers competed in the six competitions at district level and with 26 clubs involved in the finals, the expectation is for some great golf over the four days.

East Cork, a club that has enjoyed considerable success in the various ILGU competitions in recent years, go in search of a significant treble.

Of the 26 clubs, only East Cork have more than one team chasing the glory. They won the Junior Cup in 2011 and again in 2013 and this time are chasing the Intermediate title (handicaps 16 to 22) along with the Minor Cup (23-28) and the Junior Foursomes (minimum combined handicap 35).

The Intermediate team have an engagement on Thursday against the winners of the previous day’s quarter-final between Milltown and Wicklow. Their Minor Cup side face a quarter-final clash tomorrow against Galway while the Junior Foursomes squad take on Edenmore in the semi-final on Friday.

Tipperary v Galway Bay. 1.30pm: Junior Foursomes quarter-final: Corrstown v Borris.

Friday: 8am: Junior Foursomes semi-final: Edenmore v East Cork. 8.30am: Junior Foursomes semi-final : Corrstown/Borris v Gort. 9am: Junior Cup semi-final: Kilkenny v Dooks. 9.45am: Junior Cup semi-final: Castlebar/Lurgan v Milltown, 10.30am: Challenge Cup semi-final: Co. Tipperary/Galway Bay v Co. Armagh. 11.15am: Challenge Cup semi-final: Greystones v Castle Barna. 12.15pm: Senior Foursomes final. 12.45pm: Minor Cup final. 1.30pm: Intermediate Cup final.
