Monkstown Golf Club will be a hive of activity this week as it plays host to the national finals of the Private Home Care inter-club women’s championships from tomorrowthrough to Saturday.

MITCHELSTOWN yesterday ended 101 years of disappointment and frustration when they won the Chartis Irish Junior Cup with a decisive 4-1 victory over Lurgan at Castlerock.

IT’S a big weekend of Munster Junior Cup semi-final action with cup specialists Cork Constitution taking on Kilfeacle at Musgrave Park while Division Two League winners Galbally collide with Junior League winners and Tipperary rivals Cashel at Clanwilliam Park.

Next Saturday's AIB Cup final will be an Ulster-Munster affair as Limerick stalwarts, Garryowen, meet their northern counterparts, Belfast Harlequins, in Dubarry Park, Athlone for the AIB Cup Final.

IN THE HOPE of an all-Cork clash in the final of hockey’s Irish Junior Cup, arch rivals Cork Harlequins and Cork Church of Ireland will be rooting for each other this weekend as they contest separate semi-finals of the competition.

THIS is a huge week for golf in Ireland and Britain with at least four major tournaments down for decision.
