Cutler main man in Sligo as Ireland close on Triple Crown

IRELAND’S victory over Wales at County Sligo’s Rosses Point yesterday lacked the nail-biting tension of the previous day’s narrow defeat of England but it still put them very much in prime position to win the Home Nations Championship when they come up against Scotland in today’s final round of matches.

They are the only unbeaten side left in the event after a poor performance by Scotland against England (winners by 10½-4½) and with the core of the squad in outstanding form, a rare Triple Crown could very well be on the cards for captain Dr Kevin Flanagan and his players.

Paul Cutler, the 22-year-old from Portstewart, who is set to make his Walker Cup debut against the United States at Royal Aberdeen next month, goes into the last day with a 100% record from his four matches to date.
