Greatest tournament in world, says McIlroy

RORY McILROY finally acknowledged last night that the Ryder Cup is no “exhibition” and instead that it is “the greatest golf tournament in the world.”

Within seconds of his utterance, Lee Westwood mischievously quipped, “you mean the best exhibition” a reference to the unfortunate description of the event by McIlroy two years ago. Rory bravely smiled back: “The best exhibition in the world.”

On a more serious note, the 21-year-old whose half point from his match against Stewart Cink was to prove so important to Europe’s victory, added: “This has been the best week of my golfing life. It’s been incredible. To share every moment with these guys is incredible. It’s just been fantastic. And you know, I’m very young and I don’t want to miss a Ryder Cup for the next 20 years.

“This experience has been so much better and different than any other experience I’ve felt at a golf tournament before.”
