Kaymer escapes fine for Germany shirt stunt

“In the spirit of the day it’s no problem,” said Scottish tournament director Mike Stewart, “but I’ve reminded him that he should not be wearing football shirts to play golf in.”

Kaymer ducked into bushes off the 18th tee and emerged wearing the German team colours.

Kaymer kissed the badge after holing out, but removed the shirt after being spoken to.

On Friday Sergio Garcia wore a Spain shirt throughout his second round. Stewart, though, has not yet seen pictures of that, so whether the former world number two is fined remains to be seen.

Ian Poulter had to dip into his pocket many years ago when he wore an Arsenal shirt.
